It’s Nutrition and Hydration Week!

This week (11-17 March) is Nutrition and Hydration Week – an annual event with a shared, global objective to reinforce, focus, energise and create activity and engagement to promote nutrition and hydration as a fundamental element to maintaining health and wellbeing within health and social care.

Following suggestions received from teams across the Trust, the main theme for this year’s campaign is Food and Mood.

Nutrition and Hydration Week is always a great excuse to learn a bit more about nutrition for both our colleagues and patients, and as usual our facilities teams will be hosting various events across our hospitals and sites to mark the occasion:

Monday 11 March

MUST Monday
Information on the Malnutrition Screening Tool (MUST) for colleagues and patients and to promote awareness.

Tuesday 12 March

Tasting Tuesday
Food tasting for staff, i.e. international nurses to support and provide better guidance to patients.

Wednesday 13 March

Buffet Lunch Tea Party
Some of the products offered will include items that improve hydration, without compromising the fun and taste.

Thursday 14 March

Thirsty Thursday
A variety of drinks, milkshakes and ice lollies will be available to help promote hydration and mood.

Friday 15 March

Fibre Friday
A normal menu, but with a larger choice of fruits for snacks and vegetables at meal times.

Saturday 16 March

Sensory Saturday
We will provide foods with more herbs and spices, olive/rapeseed oils, fish and snacks similar to Omega 3-rich Mediterranean diets, to improve your food and mood!

Sunday 17 March

Sun Sunday Sundae
Improving bowel care and preventing constipation by increasing the fibre in the diet – with more fluids, fibre and Vitamin D (sunny vitamin) for mood.

Get involved!

Our colleagues will be taking lots of pictures throughout the week, so that we can celebrate and share our activities on social media:

A lot of hard work and planning has gone into this year’s Nutrition and Hydration Week events and we would like to say a big thank you to all those involved.

This week (18-22 November) is #STOPthePressure Week – a national and worldwide campaign by clinicians to raise everybody’s awareness of pressure ulcer prevention and management.
